Excerpt from The Technique of Vagino-Peritoneal Operations
IN spite of the great progress which has been made in vagino-peritoneal operations during the last ten years, no systematic work has as yet appeared on this subject.
We have endeavoured to supply this want, and in doing so, our great aim has been to render special service to beginners.
For the illustrations we employed photography. The difficulties met with in photographing the opera tion area owing to the narrowness and depth of the vagina, were overcome by making use of the cadaver, in which, after splitting the symphysis, we found it possible to obtain sufficient vaginal dilatation to render the whole field accessible for photography.
For the sake of beginners, the illustrations are so arranged as to demonstrate each operation step by step, and we claim that the technique of an operation can be completely understood from a study of the illustrations, even without the aid of the accompany ing text.
