Description
Excerpt from A Treatise of Celestial Mechanics, Vol. 1: Book the First, Translated From the French, and Elucidated With Explanatory Notes
General expression Of the square of its velocity. It describes a curve in which the integral of the product Of its velocity, by the element of this curve, is a mzmmum. No. 8 Method of determining the pressure, which a point moving on a surface, or on a curve, exerts against it. Of the centrifugal force. No. 9 Application Of'' the preceding principles to the motion of a free point actuated by the force of gravity, in a resisting medium. Investigation of the law of resistance necessary to make the point describe a given curve. Particular examination of the casein which the resistance vanishes. N O. 10 Application Of the same principles, to the motion of a heavy body on a spherical surface.
