Lysons says that Osterley House was rebuilt by Sir Thomas Gresham, and was completed in 1577. In the year 1578 Queen Elizabeth visited Osterley, Where Sir Thomas Gresham entertained her in a very magnificent manner. Lord Chief Justice Coke inhabited it after Lady Gresham''s death, and George Earl of Des mond and his Countess resided at Osterley many years. Sir William Waller, the Parliamentary general, lived there from 1657 to his death in 1668.
