The publication of this new edition gives me an opportunity of performing two very pleasant tasks, to record the advance and prosperity of the Colony during the past year, and to thank my reviewers everywhere for the generous praise they have bestowed upon my first attempt at authorship. I thank them not only for myself, but on behalf of my fellow colonists; the kindly notice they have taken of my volume is not so much due to any small merits in the work, it is far more the expression of kindly interest so universally felt for England's most ancient Colony, whose sad eventful history I have endeavoured truthfully to relate.
