Description

Excerpt from The Opus Majus Of Roger Bacon, Vol. 2 of 2

This passage comes from the Magd. Ms. And is not found in the other mss. Of Perspective: which have come to my knowledge. The first reference to Aristotle is, 1 suppose, to Nat. Auscult. Lib. Ii. Cap. 2, where Optic (òwmm''y) is spoken of as a distinct science. And is classed with Harmonic and Astronomy in opposition to pure mathematic. The expression subalterna/ur res is Obscure. The second reference is to De Sansa et 5msalo, cap. 2. This apparently is the work which Bacon speaks of as ''translatus in Latinum.''
