Description
Excerpt from The Life-Boat and Its Story
At last, after wide digression, we have come back to the ?oating crock, that we mentioned in our first page, for it is upon that same crock that the essential principle is founded. As a matter Of history, it was not until something more than a hundred years ago that the theory and the crock were brought together, but un doubtedly the principle was adopted from the earliest times. Our Viking forbears built their great open vessels on identical lines, and the same unconsidered fragment has impressed its characteristics upon the surf-boats of the world. However, we will stick to history. The crock was the immediate ancestor of the self-righting life-boat, and this is the true story of the dis covery of its capabilities.
