Description
Lady Gertrude Georgina Douglas (writing also as George Douglas, 1842-1893) made a scandalous marriage to a younger man who was the head baker in her Roman Catholic priest brother's mission to the 'waifs and strays' from the streets. She used the novel both as a means of earning money and as a vehicle for expressing her Catholic and anti-women's-rights views. Linked Lives follows the interwoven lives of a better-off Church of England girl and a poor, outcast Catholic girl in Glasgow.
