The present volume may be regarded as, in some degree, a sequel or pendant to a previous work of the author''s, published in 1879, and subsequently re-issued several times under the title of Country Pleasures.'' The motive and plan of the two books are to a large extent the same. What is here presented is not the result of elaboration or afterthought, but is that which was written down at the time in journal-form when the impressions were fresh and vivid.
