Description
The main protagonist, Pericles, is tested throughout the course of the play, enduring a shipwreck, participating in a tournament of strength, and winning a bride to love and care for him. Pericles sees the world as full of adventure and his boat as his vessel of fate. But his newly acquired bride doesn''t quite see eye to eye with him, and the two lovebirds quickly find themselves in dire straits as a harrowing shipwreck threatens their lives together and the life of their child. Nearby villains hide in the shadows and plot against them in the hopes of destroying them and seizing power. In the end, Pericles finds hope for his child, that she may live a safe and happy life while he struggled to do so in his youth.
Pericles, Prince of Tyre is a different take from the typical plays of Shakespeare but certainly worthy of being included in this lofty cannon. For readers who enjoy drama, the theater, or history, this is an entertaining and exciting play that lends itself to drama and humor in equal doses. This play is also exciting for individuals familiar with Shakespeare''s work as well as readers who have yet to pick up one of his many plays.
