Description
Excerpt from A Treatise on Lace-Making, Embroidery, and Needle-Work With Irish Flax Thread
T 0 one suggestion, not accepted, we wish to refer; it is that our Irish ?ax threads be made in Shaded colors for crocheting, as is done with cotton threads. We do not feel that this would be desir able. There is nothing atall artistic in these productions of shaded thread; indeed, to the cultivated eye they possess an abnormal ugliness. After laundering, such work is not even presentable, and the readiness with which cotton is known to soil renders its life re markably ephemeral. As a lady of taste remarked in our hearing not long ago, It Will not look nice, even while one is working on it, which is very true.
