This is the first of three volumes which deal, in a V Simple and elementary fashion, with the ordinary utensils and appliances of common life. We are so accustomed to taking them for granted that we do not Sufficiently realize from how wide an area they are drawn or to what change they are subjected in their process from the raw material to the finished product. The books are intended primarily for school use, and should be studied, along with maps, as part of the ordinary curri culum of social geography. But there are few readers, of any age, who will not gain from them something of real interest and learn to under stand more fully the interdependence not only of the Empire but of the world at large.
