Description
Spectrum is the UK collection management standard that is also used around the world. It gives tried-and-tested advice on the things museums do when managing the collections in their care. Some of these are daily activities, such as moving objects around. Others are occasional, like updating insurance cover. Spectrum calls these activities procedures and there are 21 of them.
This latest edition, Spectrum 5.1, features updated Cataloguing and Use of collections procedures, along with some changes to the language used throughout the standard. These revisions are based on sector consultation as part of our rethinking cataloguing campaign, and aim to encourage a more open and inclusive approach.
The full Spectrum standard is published in two volumes: this one, which includes all the collection management procedures, and an appendix describing the information you are likely to need to record. If you already have the Spectrum 5.0 appendix, you do not need to buy it again, as it has not changed.
