Description

Excerpt from History of the Anglo-Saxons: From the Earliest Period to the Norman Conquest

For the historical materials of this volume, I have been mainly indebted to the sterling and valuable work of the late Mr. Sharon Turner, who, during a long life, neglected no oppor tunity of acquiring information on the subject. I have before. On several occasions, had to acknowledge his kind and liberal assistance in historical inquiries and now that he is no more, gratify myself by again recording my obligations, and bearing testimony to the value of his labours. Many other works on anglo-saxon History, Manners, and Literature have been con sulted, but Turner left me very little to glean elsewhere.
