Description
This little book reviews the biblical comfort that can be accessed by sufferers in all conditions, emphasising that no situation is without its comforts. Loneliness and feelings of uselessness are sensitively but robustly dealt with alongside the handling of pain. All the counsel offered is drawn from a clear doctrinal basis with particular reference to the character of God and Christ’s sufferings.
The author, Philip Bennett Power (1822-1899) knew much of the need for comfort in illness from personal experience. Born in Waterford, Ireland, he served a number of churches in England until his ministry was cut short due to ill health. The limitations of the last 34 years of his life undoubtedly contribute to the warmth and sympathy of his approach in this book.
Originally published as The Sick Man's Comfort Book in 1876, this title is better known as A Book of Comfort for those in Sickness, the title it has subsequently been issued under.
