The following sketches appeared at in~ tervals during the year 1914 in the ameri can ecclesiastical review. The com piler cannot permit their appearance in collected form without an acknowledgment of his indebtedness to the members of the editorial staff of the review, for courtesies received at their hands, and to his friend, the Reverend William P. Mortell, to whose kindly encouragement the work, in large part, owes its inception.
