Description
Excerpt from The Rhode Island Signers of the Declaration of Independence: Stephen Hopkins, And, William Ellery
Society of the Sons of the American Revolution as a token of its deep gratitude to Stephen Hopkins and William Ellery, the Rhode Island signers of the Declaration of Independence. We seek to perpetuate their memory, not because they won the laurel Chaplet on the fields of battle, but because for twenty years before the first gun was fired in the Revolution they fought the fight for the'' rights and liberties of the American colonies, and with others of like loyalty and power brought these colonies together into a close Union, prepared by the fire and blood of armed con?ict to be welded into a nation.
