Description

Excerpt from The Nonjurors: Their Lives, Principles, and Writings

IT has been my aim in this book to disentangle, as far as possible, the ecclesiastical from the political question to trace the history of the Nonjurors, as a religious community, from the time of their temporary alienation from, to the time of their reabsorption in, the old Church of England, of which they contended that they had always been the most consistent and faithful mem bers; to give the reader a clear and definite impression of the personalities of all the chief actors; and, finally, to bring into prominence the later phase of the movement, which appears to be little known, though it certainly has a distinct interest of its own.
