Description

Excerpt from The Contribution of the Anglo-Saxon Church in the Making of the Republic: A Sermon Before the Colonial Dames in the Bethlehem Chapel of the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, Washington, Sunday, May 5, 1912

As to his attendance upon the services of the Church, the Rector of Pohick testifies that he neverknew so constant an attendant as Washington, though the church was six miles from Mt. Vernon. He adds that no company ever kept him from church, and that his behaviour therein was so reverential that it produced the happiest effect on the congregation.
