Description
The story examines how Lisa became a prisoner of messages impressed upon her by both maternal and paternal families – a prejudiced influence that served to hold her back and prevent her from experiencing life to its fullest.
Gradually, over time, she came to recognise her own entanglement in the fates of others who had lived before her, as sketched fragments of a mosaic picture that she was able to piece together from the many incidents and information she uncovered.
Her journey from house to house was one of adventure and self-discovery, a journey she saw as a process of purification rather than of liberation. As a result, she came to better understand the past and her part in this mosaic picture. Now she feels free to live out the rest of her years at peace with the past and in harmony with the present.
The book also explores events in World War II, the expulsion from her homeland in 1946, and a new beginning in West Germany. This had a significant impact on Lisa’s life and explains her subsequent journey from one place to another, searching for a new home.
A very personal and fascinating insight into the impact families and their prejudiced influences can have on a child growing up at the beginning of World War II; and how that person went on to achieve great things in her career whilst simultaneously searching to discover her own identity and a sense of belonging in the world.
