Description
Hugh Martin (1822-1885) was a Scottish minister and writer. His commentary on Jonah is well known and other titles such as The Shadow of Calvary and The Atonement are also widely appreciated.
This book on Simon Peter is not a biography in the usual sense of that term for a biblical character. It does not cover everything that the Bible has to say about the life and ministry of Peter, dealing only with events prior to the Crucifixion.
Martin states that his purpose is to deal with aspects of Peter’s life that correspond with the experiences of all believers and this makes it extremely valuable. Where Peter acts rashly or sinfully, the author traces those facets of his conduct that are to be commended as well as dealing faithfully with his errors. Gospel challenges are included together with helpful applications to Christians.
