Excerpt from Loy Hering: Ein Beitrag zur Geschichte der Deutschen Plastik des XVI. Jahrhunderts
Was ihn hierzu veranlaßte, läßt sich nicht feststellen; sicher ist nur, daß er schon 1514 das Denkmal des hl. Willibald im Dom zu Eichstatt vollendete, ein umfangreiches Werk, das kaum in einem Jahr entstanden sein dürfte, also auch schon 1513 in Arbeit gewesen sein wird. Das Willibaldsdenkmal wurde, wie die Inschrift beweist, durch Bischof Gabriel von Eyb in Auftrag gegeben. Der Umstand, daß der Meister sogleich bei seiner Übersiedlung nach Eichstatt einen so bedeutenden Auftrag durch den Bischof erhielt, läßt vermuten, daß Gabriel von Eyb die Übersiedlung irgend wie veranlaßt habeß)
