On October 14, 1946, Robert Allerton gave to the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois part of his homestead, The Farms, near Monticello in Piatt County, Illinois, to be used by the University as an educational and research center, as a forest and a wild-life and plant life reserve, as an example of landscape architecture, and as a public park. The portion known as the Woodland Property, approximately acres in extent, has been named Robert Allerton Park.
