Con fej} they may appear a little Extravagant, yet they are never the lej} true for f?eming fo, but at they were puh lichly try'd for their Pyraciet, there are living Witne?i't enough to jujiijj' what we have laid down concerning them 5 it is certain, we have produced fome Particular: which were not fit publickly known, the Reafbn it, we were more inquifi tiue into the Circumfi'ancet of their pa}? Livet, than other People, who had no other Defign, than that of gratifying their own private Curio/it)! If there are jhme Incident: and Turn: in their Stories, which may give them a little the Air of a Novel, they are not invented or contrived for that Purpoj}, it it a Kind of Reading this Author it but little acquainted with, hut at he himf?lf was exceedingly diverted with them, when they were related to him, he thought they might have the fame Efii'li upon the Reader.
