Description
The Church of the Brethren, from its commencement, has nurtured within its borders men of God, the history of whose lives and labours is worthy of extensive circulation. Bishop Spangenberg, like Count Zinzendorf, exercised so remarkable an in?uence upon the formation and extension of that Church, that his memory, for this reason alone, is worthy of honour. At the same time he was a witness for the truth, so deeply rooted and grounded in the love of Jesus, and so strengthened with might by His Spirit, that an account of his life cannot but prove edifying to every one who delights in studying the word of God, as exemplified in the lives and experience of the children of men. These con siderations have induced the editor to compile a biography of Spangenberg, from both printed and written documents, in the hope that it may obtain extensive circulation among Christians of every denomination. In doing this, he cherishes the belief that it will meet with an attentive perusal, and if it should become the means, under God, of leading any one to Christ, - unto that Saviour who revealed himself so clearly to the heart of. Spangenberg, - the editor will deem his humble labours amply rewarded.
