    Scholastic Teacher Bookshop provides a wonderful range of titles reflecting current issues in education as well as the most popular primary curriculum areas. STARTING POINTS FOR ASSEMBLIES provides a collection of original texts that can be used as a focus for assemblies. The collection covers a wide range of genres - including stories, poems, letters, newspaper articles, diary extracts, and so on - giving a huge variety of starting points from which to explore concepts and discuss issues. As well as photocopiable texts, the book also includes support on how to introduce the assembly, guidance for discussion, ideas for extending the text within the assembly - for example role play - suggestions for follow-up work back in the classroom and a closing thought. Chapters are included on the themes of: friendship, keeping happy and healthy, change, growing up, being out in the wider world and global citizenship.
