    The Future happened last weekend

Published on 16/06/2014 by David Birkett

The Bookseller – the UK’s principal trade magazine for the book industry – is always eager to embrace and discuss the technological and structural changes which have characterised the publishing world in recent years. The magazine – through its Futurebook arm – has just held its first ‘Futurebook Hack’, in which developers, designers and entrepreneurs, guided by a panel of book industry mentors, were assembled to brainstorm digital and other technological approaches to challenges in the industry. The event was the initiative of literary agent Simon Trewin, who had been inspired by a similar, US-based event. The five challenges for which entrants competed to provide the best solution were: use of data, use of audio, automated content creation, discoverability and re-imagining of children’s print. You can read about the event and the category winners on The Bookseller’s website.
