Sheer's quality wins Welsh book prize

Published on 22/07/2014 by David Birkett

The overall winner of the Welsh Books of the Year prize was recently announced as Pink Mist, by Owen Sheers. This verse-drama examines the effects on three young soldiers from Bristol of being deployed to Afghanistan, and was selected over the category winners for Fiction – The Rice Paper Diaries, by Francesca Rhydderch – and Creative Non-Fiction - Rhys Davies: A Writer’s Life, by Meic Stephens. This is Owen Sheers’ second triumph in this prize, having won in 2005 for his non-fiction work The Dust Diaries, which recounted the author’s exploration of the life and legacy of Arthur Cripps, who was a missionary to Rhodesia and whose notebook was among the possessions of Sheer’s father.
