Rediscovered Douglas Adams material to be published in new biography

Published on 02/06/2014 by David Birkett

A forthcoming biography of Hitchhiker’s Guide author Douglas Adams will include material that Adams excluded from the published versions of the novels.  The previously unpublished content was discovered in Adams’ archive, and will feature in The Frood, by Jem Roberts, to be published in September by the Preface imprint of Random House, UK.  Beginning life as a Radio 4 serial in 1979, the Hithchiker’s Guide grew to become a worldwide phenomenon and expanded into many different forms including: a play; five novels by Adamas; one by Eoin Colfer; a TV series; a film; vinyl singles and LPs; cds and several actual towels.  Among other things in Roberts’ book, we are promised a more in-depth history of the Dentrassis, who are the most renowned preparers of food and drink in Adams’ universe.  Adams was a notoriously reluctant writer and liked to say: ‘I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.’
